Jacqueline Tolken is a soulful singer-songwriter known for her passionate vocals and eclectic style that blends blues, jazz, soul, and pop with an authentic, feel-good energy. Often compared to Amy Winehouse and Adele with a hint of old soul like Nina Simone, Jacqueline has carved out a sound and presence that is uniquely her own.

Originally from Phalaborwa in Limpopo, South Africa, Jacqueline began performing from a young age—entertaining family and friends as early as five years old. By age ten, she was already writing songs and playing guitar. Her lifelong love for music has shaped every step of her journey.

Driven by wanderlust, Jacqueline found herself in India at 21, and over the following decade, she travelled to 64 countries before settling in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, where she lived for six years. In 2014, she entered The Voice of Holland and made it through to the blind auditions—an experience that reignited her passion and inspired her to pursue music full-time. She performed extensively in venues across Amsterdam between 2014–2016, and in the same year, she opened for Kurt Darren, followed by performances with Bobby van Jaarsveld and Arno Jordaan in 2015 at a South African concert in Holland.

Returning to South Africa in 2016, Jacqueline continued her musical journey and in 2017 was selected for The Voice South Africa Season 2. Her blind audition earned a rare four-chair turn, and she advanced to the top 32 in the knockout rounds.

Since then, she has successfully launched her music career, releasing three singles and an EP, 7 Years of Bad Luck, available on all major music platforms. Her original songs have received airplay and interviews on various South African radio stations, including Eden Radio, Impact Radio, Goodhope FM, Smile 90.4FM, MixFM, Hot91.9FM, PUK FM, and a live interview on GROOTontbyt on kykNET.

Jacqueline performs both as a solo artist and as part of two exciting collaborations:

• Jack and June
An acoustic duo with her husband, musician Werner van der Hoven. While both continue to pursue their solo careers, together they perform a unique and versatile blend of acoustic music, rich in vocal harmonies. Their sound offers a modern interpretation of blues, soul, and rock ‘n’ roll—authentic, heartfelt, and perfect for any occasion.

• The Jacqueline Tolken Trio
Offering a variety of configurations tailored to suit your event, including Solo Piano, Solo Trumpet, a Piano & Trumpet duo, or the full Trio experience featuring Vernon Steer and Jacques Rautenbach.
